A comprehensive review of 53 studies has highlighted the potential of the Zeolite and Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework (ZIF) in enhancing the precision and control of delivering cancer drugs to target tissues and organs. Researchers propose utilizing Zeolite/ZIF alongside cancer drugs to enhance their effectiveness and overcome the limitations of conventional treatments [1].

Additionally, a 2019 study [2] explored various zeolite systems for treating colorectal cancer. It concluded that zeolites like ZSM-5, zeolite A, and faujasite-NaX were excellent choices for controlled drug release in cancer treatment. The effectiveness of these zeolites against the CaCo-2 colon cancer cell line, particularly when loaded with 5-Fu, was remarkable.

Furthermore, a study by Noor Azhana Ghazi and her team [3] discovered that Zeolite exhibited a significant inhibitory effect on HeLa, AsPC-1, and 911 cancer cells, indicating its potential as an anti-cancer agent in alternative or complementary therapy.

The basic structure of zeolite clinoptilolite is considered biologically inert and non-toxic. According to the EFSA, the assessment of toxicity in zeolite clinoptilolite in animal feed is at a dose of 10,000 mg/kg [11]. This research conclusion pertains specifically to zeolite clinoptilolite. It's important to note that there are many other types of zeolites.

Indeed, another review suggests that not all zeolites are safe. Specifically, it has been found that zeolite erionite is associated with lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma [12]. Furthermore, exposure to erionite fiber dust has been linked to fatalities in a village in Turkey [12].
